Just this past couple of weeks we saw an attempt by the Federal Communications Commission, under the direction of Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler and appointed Acting Manager Jon Wilkins, pushing to place its people in the newsrooms of all television, radio, and newsprint media. The purported reason for this was said to be a survey to understand how news stories are determined and prioritized. Sure, sure it was. Let us be honest here—any damned fool can figure that out simply by watching the nightly news or reading any one of the hundreds of liberal rag newspapers in the country today. Instead, the Commission said that monitors would allow them to determine if the media was indeed serving the needs of all Americans both equally and fairly. Here we go again, another shot at controlling the press and limiting free speech under the guise of fairness and equality. Amazingly, the media did not stand up and scream “foul” in unison. The mostly liberal, gullible media simply believed what they were being told.
Had that newsroom monitor scenario run its course, I can only imagine what the findings would have been. I am sure that the final report would include things like: too much public exposure to conservative talk shows; too much time spent on “political issues” and insufficient time given to social-consciousness items; not enough stories printed or broadcast in support of federal government programs and the public understanding of them, and so on. Of course, down in the recommendations would come the meat with the suggestions, soon to be requirements by law, that particular amounts of time and space be consumed in the media and in print as directed by government regulation—a wonderful first step in doing away with the First Amendment. Luckily, the hoopla raised by conservative talk radio on this effort may have sent them scurrying back to their bunkers for the time being, but you can bet they will be back.
We have also had the ongoing effort to do away with any professional sports teams’ names that might be considered offensive. That focus, most recently, has been on the Washington Redskins with the Left demanding the name be changed to something more politically correct. Here again, we have a particular ‘movement’ used as the front to attack free expression. In this instance, the Left is looking for precedence. Once that precedence has good roots, then it will be simply understood that the government must pass muster on any proposed sports team’s name before it can be employed. All control comes through the process of that important first step. Once things are in place, there is no longer a basis to argue against the requirement—you essentially spoke up too late.
Now we see a clash between NFL owners and some of the team players over the use of the “N-word” on the field and in the locker room. The owners, under pressure from politically correct factions, want to ban the word and punish any player using it with fines and/or suspension from the league. Black players are arguing against the proposal saying that “a bunch of white owners have no concept of the word or its use, therefore, any effort to ban it or punish the use of it should exclude them because they are black." One can only wonder how either side would feel about the word “cracker” and its use on the field and in the locker room. If the NFL banned that word, it would affect the same group of players in the league. So, if you play in the NFL and you are white, you cannot say the “N-word” or “cracker” without facing punishment—but both words are fine for the black players to use. Interesting, huh?
The latter situation is somewhat laughable, but it does point to the seriousness of one faction or another attempting to place controls on our society. When that happens, suddenly we are not all equal anymore, which ostensibly was the purpose of trying to create all this “fairness and equality” in the first place. Now it appears that “fairness and equality” would dictate that certain people can do things but others cannot, as cited in the example of the black NFL players determining that they have earned the right use the “N-word” simply through their heritage. I would assume the same argument would be put forth for “cracker."
As it stands today, the First Amendment to the Constitution is clearly under attack in every fashion. Likewise, the Second Amendment is also under siege in the hope that all guns will soon be in the control of the sane people who run our federal government. These are just a couple of examples of the onslaught by the current administration on the document that defines the freedoms and rights of the people of this nation. Since Obama took office, we have witnessed a number of situations in which he has circumvented the checks and balances of the Constitution, and also a number of instances in which he has openly defied it and dared anyone to confront him. Of course, if anyone does dare, you can fully expect that the ‘race card’ will hit the table in short order. Why is it that the founding documents of this nation and the methodology by which they are employed and sustained can come under full attack and be met with almost total silence? At the same time, why is it that defending those documents and processes by challenging anyone attempting to circumvent them becomes an issue of race? Where is the sense of logic that the average American should have, and where is their understanding and regard for our heritage and history?
Something very insidious is going on in America and has been for a long while now. Like termites, socialists, Marxists, and communists have burrowed themselves into the woodwork of America. They have gained a foothold in high office and now hold positions of power in the daily operations of our government. They are in a position like no other time in history to raise the attack on our culture and our way of life. What we are witnessing going on right in front of us today is not just a difference in perspectives of Americans who, at heart, all want the same thing but possibly disagree on how to get there. This is no longer the case. What we are seeing today is a very visible effort to “transform” America into something that it is not and was never intended to be from the outset. This effort is being sold under the guise of fairness and equality, and on that basis, the transformation seeks to control as many aspects of our lives as possible by telling us what to say, when to say it, how to say, and so on. Each victory gains ground and provides justification to move on to the next battlefront. Each victory assures these “termites” that the foundation most assuredly will soon be consumed, allowing the house to fall down. . .and then, the prize is theirs.
Of course, you understand that since I wrote this piece and believe in its content, the Left automatically labels me as one of the insane. They do not argue the principles of their desires but instead put all their energy into destroying those who challenge them in their efforts. If you listen to their line, every conservative talk radio show is hosted by a nut, and television programs like Fox News should be taken off the air because all their reporting is unfavorable to the president and his agenda. Whatever happened to the concept of a “free press” and news entities that simply reported the facts and let the cards fall where they may? That answer is an easy one—they fell by the wayside under the unyielding onslaught of progressive socialism. America is under attack.
