3.7 million dollars, huh? Frankly, that would not be enough money to cover the costs of the Obama’s vacations for one full year. Obama himself spent almost that amount going to Hawaii for his Christmas vacation, then turning around, coming back, then returning again a couple of days later. So, in that sense, the price tag for sustaining our former presidents is rather cheap and I, for one, cannot wait until Barack Obama is on that list for he will then actually be on a budget. It will tough on Barack and Moochelle to have to stretch those dollars in the first couple of years but I am sure they will adjust to it.
Let’s not forget that 3.7 million dollars would hardly cover the hotel expenses for one of Vice-President Crazy Uncle Joe Biden’s jaunts through Europe. Add in the $50K per weekend he spends flying a government jet back and forth to Delaware and the ink will quickly turn red. Joe is either homesick or he is getting his hair transplants inserted up there. Uncle Joe apparently takes everyone along with him figuring that no one pays any attention to what he does anyway and, even though his price tag is a high one, he knows that it pales in the light of the money spent by Barack and Moochelle. Uncle Joe just grins and throws another taxpayer Ben Franklin on the counter.
This is the attitude which we are confronted with by Washington today. As Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi had to have a Boeing 757 jet to fly home and back each weekend so that, for security reasons, she did not have to land in one of the smaller jets and expose herself to potential acts of fly-over country hatred or possible all out terrorism. Ms. Pelosi acted as if she never asked for such but was given it in the interest of security. I seriously doubt that rationalization. After all, I would think the Speaker of the House has the power to turn down anything he/she does not really want or need. Funny, speaker Boehner does not seem to be confronted with the issue of security…wonder how that works?
Obama, Biden, Reid, and Pelosi are all saturated with the attitude that all money in the system ultimately belongs to the government and that any you might have is simply on loan to you at the government’s good graces. It can be taken away at any time in any amount. This trio saw nothing wrong with what Cypress was recently proposing to do by raiding every one of its citizens’ bank accounts and confiscating whatever level of funds was needed. The act made perfect sense to all of them. In effect, they could care less if Joe Citizen has two pennies to rub together as long as they get their way while in office.
With the $880 Billion dollar stimulus which Obama pushed through with the assistance of Biden, Reid, and Pelosi, we could support the current surviving former presidents for over 238,000 years at the $3.7 million price tag. If we had committed the money to that support, at least the American people would have gotten something measurable for the money. Instead, all we can do is listen to someone say that the money is gone and it was not enough to accomplish what was necessary to turn the economy. In truth, the economy never really saw that money and would not have seen any greater amount either as it was squirreled away and passed out to the “green industries” and other sidelines which just happen to line up nicely with Obama’s support system for infusing money back into his campaign and the pockets of his cronies. Instead, with the aid of The Huffington Post, you, as the taxpayer, should be worried about what our ex-presidents are costing us annually. This bunch loves to wave the sleight of hand as they walk away from the crash-site unscathed.
Austerity is without meaning in the current administration. Perhaps you have heard that President Obama’s daughters, Sasha and Malia, are “spring-breaking” at a high-end resort in the Bahamas. Given the price tag on Malia’s spring-break trip to Mexico last year of almost $116,000, I have to wonder what this vacation will cost the American taxpayers. The Mexico vacation included 12 tag-along-friends and required the services of 25 secret service agents to cover security. Since both daughters are on this trip, the headcount is likely up on both sides of that equation. The watchdog group, Judicial Watch, has filed a Freedom of Information Act request for details of the trip. There is no indication that Obama paid out of pocket for the Mexico trip so it is doubtful that he will be picking up the tab for this one either. Who paid your child’s spring-break expenses? With the current financial situation in the country, President Obama should be trying to make it more than obvious that he is picking up the tab for his daughter’s expensive vacations.
The country is working on four years without a budget now basically operating out of a cost-plus checkbook which suits this President just fine. Sequestration threatens to cut deeply into our military and the defense capabilities of this nation yet Obama has time, and apparently enough money, to run off down to Florida and play golf with Tiger Woods. He is out playing golf when the nation is looking for someone to take a leadership role and find the common ground necessary to not only put a budget in place but to also begin putting our financial status back into a more positive light. Apparently, the only talent Obama possess in that regard is to blame others for his irresponsible leadership and his obviously expensive examples as a first-class money spender.
President Obama just gave the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization he obviously adores, the equivalent of $250 million dollars in military hardware including F-16 Fighter Jets and Abrams tanks. He does not seem to be able to give the time of day to Israel, one of our strongest allies, but has all the resources to supply the Muslim Brotherhood with the equipment to attack Israel. Now $250 million dollars would handle the upkeep on our former presidents for about 68 years but to use money in that manner would be frivolous.
At the same time the President has so graciously equipped the Brotherhood, he stands in front of the American people and threatens to lower border security, shut down national parks, reduce airport security and air traffic controllers, eliminate funding for first-responder support, and cut deeply in to the budget of the military. Obama blames it all on the sequestration which he and his staffers designed as an out to gain the debt ceiling they desired. At the time, neither Obama nor his staff believed that anyone on the right side of the aisle had the courage to pull that trigger. Like most other things he forms an opinion about…he was wrong.
The President can threaten all the above and claim that America cannot find any way to reduce the rise in current spending levels by $85 billion dollars without carrying out those claims. Perhaps he should have given that some thought prior to giving away $250 million dollars. Perhaps he might consider shutting down his wife and daughter’s vacation planning operation; telling Joe Biden to stay in Washington, and maybe park that 747 provided for his use for a while. These are obvious items which are at his control yet he shows no initiative in doing anything about that bleeding of dollars. You see, the President and those around him are just as exempt from Sequestration as they are from the pitfalls of ObamaCare.
Washington, like Obama, does not want to stop spending. Spending is power and those occupying most of the elected seats there are drunk and insane with power. If their power is to grow then the federal government with its long tentacles must also grow…at the expense of the American taxpayer and the private sector. No longer does the government serve the people, now the people serve the government and that my friends is slavery. That fundamental transformation Obama speaks so frequently of includes making the federal government the center of your world whether you want it or not.
Let us be clear in our visions. Those who populate Washington are more interested in putting out three-act dramas designed to scare the living hell out of the average American than they are in creating a viable budget, managing our resources responsibly, and carrying out the “will of the people”. The entire operation is based on “flim-flam” and “smoke ‘n mirrors”. Every effort we see is just another method employed to “kick the can” down the road one more time rather than buck up and make the hard choices. Instead, you should be worried about how much we are spending to provide for our former presidents…that paltry $3.7 million dollars. Such discourses are nothing more than the fodder which creates the “B.S.” coming from those great minds which guide us in our capitol…pure, unadulterated “B.S”.
