We have no better example before us than the issue of illegal immigration in this nation. For years now, our borders, especially our southern border, have been overrun by illegals desperate to gain a foothold in the USA. Those individuals give up all their money, material possessions, and risk life and limb to go on a trek to gain illegal entry into the USA. Their motivation is certainly understandable—they come from a region where there is little available from which to make a living. They hear of the “land of milk and honey” and want to gain part of it. The lure is too great for most of them, and they risk it all to get here only to enter a life of hide and seek to remain. Still, hiding in the shadows in the USA is a far cry better than where they were prior to making their illegal trek.
Are they interested in becoming citizens of the USA? No—not really. Sure, they want the benefits, but citizenship only has one real reward for them and that is the chance to become “legal”. Given that the federal government has basically decided to forego rounding up these people and deporting them, life in the USA is pretty okay even without legal citizenship. They work, earn money, put a roof over their heads and partake of the many benefits of America without worrying about working toward legal citizenship. What could be better?
According to our elected officials in Washington, illegal immigration is “just too difficult to deal with and we just need to stop trying.” Do we have laws against coming into this country illegally? Yes, we do. Do we have well-defined borders and a police force to patrol and regulate them? Why yes, we do. Are we upholding those laws to the best of our ability as a nation? In a word—NO! We are not because those in high office have decided that we do not need to enforce the laws. In fact, they have decided that what we have done in the past is immoral and that we need reform ourselves and just embrace the lawbreakers—welcome them! To hell with constitutionality and the law, so they say!
At the same time, we will hunt a terrorist to the ends of the earth with a drone or whatever it takes to make sure that he does not go on living. “Sure,” you say, “I understand that—these terrorists are dangerous to our way of life. We have to protect ourselves.” I agree with that statement but I also contend that illegal immigration is also very dangerous to our way of life. When our borders are ignored and our laws regarding border security and citizenship are not upheld to the best of our ability, we are basically telling the outsiders, “Come on in, we want you here!”
Considering that it is estimated that we already have more than ten million illegals in this country, I would say that the word is pretty much out that we are no longer securing our borders. Over the past few years, we have turned a blind eye and tied the hands of those both responsible for and capable of securing our borders. We have ignored the problem so long now that it has reached epidemic proportions and must now be addressed—at least that’s what they’re saying on the Left. To those on the Left, it is a “crisis,” so to speak. That is how the Obama Administration works—crisis, crisis, crisis. But here’s the thing. We cannot just address it by securing our borders and enforcing our existing laws. Oh no! None of that works. The proof that it does not work is simple: Just look at all the illegals that are here now! Our system has failed, so therefore we must throw it out entirely, institute reforms, and then, and only then, secure those wide-open problematic borders. That is the solution, so say the Leftist Progressive Socialists who occupy our high government positions in Washington D.C.
According to those on the Left, Rule #1 is we cannot secure the border before we decide what to do with the illegals that are already here. In light of that rule, the Leftists quickly state that we need to offer all but the criminals a pardon—i.e., grant amnesty to those who entered the country illegally, something they did knowingly. The Left says that we must “respect these people” as human beings. I ask you, where was their respect for our borders, our nation, and our laws when they knowingly came here illegally? Respect is a two-way street in my book—you give none, you get none. Forget that, so says the Left—we have Rule #1. Once we have amnesty, then we can address the problem of securing the border, and that is that!
Let me appeal to your common sense at this point. When you have a leak in something, what do you do first? You fix the leak, right? Right! We have a leak, a major leak, in our border system which is allowing illegals to enter this country at will. Logically, the urgency and focus should be on sealing off that leak so that we can define the impact of the problem once it no longer has a source to feed it. Then we can decide what we will do with the existing illegals in our nation. Then we can decide if some form of amnesty is acceptable or if they all need to leave.
Those on the Left argue that the illegals must stay because we need them to perform the menial jobs that Americans are unwilling to do in order to make a living. Never mind the fact that more and more Americans are losing their jobs every day and having to resort to either unemployment support from the government or performing those menial tasks in order to get by. We already have too many people out of work but we need to hang on to the illegals? To me, those two concepts just do not go hand in hand in today’s economy.
Is there possibly another reason that those on the Left are so anxious to get on with reform and amnesty while keeping the security of our borders on the back burner? Well, there certainly is—and it fits right into the liberal game plan for America all the way down the line. If you sit on the Left side of the aisle, then the strategy is to gain control of the government and hold onto it so that you can grow it as the “center of the universe” and make it become “everything to everybody” by controlling every aspect of their lives. Interruptions caused by those on the Right side of the aisle gaining temporary power can no longer be tolerated if true progress is going to come in the shortest period of time. So, how does one go about gaining that control? The answer—quite an easy one—is to simply dilute the voter base.
Dilute the voter base, that is the solution. Of course those on the Left will quickly point out that no one is proposing that illegals be given voting rights. Certainly they are not, that would be insane! But, if you wait until amnesty is a reality and in place, the suggestion that someone here “legally” is not allowed to vote will be painted as “just downright inequitable,” and we cannot have that in this day of “fairness and equality” in America, can we? That’s right! Step one is amnesty, and step two is to secure the right to vote for all those who have been given amnesty. Step three is to remind all of them that it was the Democrats who secured that amnesty and that right to vote—and it’s the party to which they should be forever beholden with their vote! Now we have arrived at the true heart of the matter, and the skin is peeled back on the onion so to speak.
Amnesty for illegals will only add to the spread of the cancer which is destroying the United States of America. It most certainly will open the door for the Left to gain permanent control over the federal government which it has so desired for all time. This permanent ruling class will put forth many other liberal programs with great rapidity as we march toward the “Socialist States of America”. On arrival, we can thank the “little people” who unwittingly helped with that process—the illegals—and the blind Americans who allowed misguided compassion to rule over common sense.
There is absolutely no basis to give up on our existing immigration laws, nor is there any viable reason to give up on border security being our top priority in terms of any reform relative to immigration. This is the United States of America and we are capable of securing our borders once we sweep the damned politicians aside.
