I am surprised that California Senator, Dianne Feinstein did not break a leg as she ran ahead of the crowd to the podium to demand new talks on gun control in the aftermath of the recent Navy Yard shootings this week. Senator Feinstein and California Congresswoman, Nancy Pelosi remain whacked out on such issues of control over the citizenry…perhaps it is that rarified, liberal bay breeze which is always blowing in the San Francisco Bay area of California.
You see, Ms. Feinstein fully believes that if we can get rid of all the guns, then we can rid ourselves of all the nuts who are prone to shoot people with them. Ms. Feinstein does not want to go after the “carpenter”… she simply wants the tool of his trade, “the hammer”so to speak. Everyone knows that good, rational logic would conclude that if we get rid of the guns then those who desire to kill people in mass will simply give up and return to a normal lifestyle. Ms. Feinstein would argue that the killing power of the gun is the driving force behind these insane acts. Looking at the outcome, that argument is quite easy to buy for the person who lets someone else do their thinking, in this case, Ms. Feinstein and the like.
There is an old adage which goes something to the tune of, “In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is King”. Taken on face value, that statement is easy enough to understand and one seeing-eye would certainly have great value in a blind land. My point here is to say that guns might appear to be all powerful, especially to those who fear them or do not understand them. But, guns do not have a mind of their own. They possess no sinister intent. It is the human being that brings that element to the equation, but let’s tie that back to the “land of the blind”. You see, in a room full of helpless people, a knife becomes very powerful. In a room full of helpless people, a baseball-bat can become a very deadly instrument. Suddenly both of these items have power on the level of the gun. Must we eliminate them as well?
Speaking of powerful things, how powerful can some box-cutters and a few sets of nail-clippers be when it comes to high-jacking aircraft? Based on the outcome of the events of September 11, 2001, I would surmise that they both wield a lot of respect in the proper instance and the right circumstance. My point here is to say that Ms. Feinstein’s cure for all these ills is to simply get rid of the instrument even if that action amounts to ignoring your rights as a citizen under the Constitution. In fact, in her mind, it becomes the justification for it and that is a very dangerous mindset on the part of an elected official.
This Navy Yard shooter, like so many of those before him, had issues, possibly multiple issues which bring his mental stability into question. In fact, he made an effort to identify those issues when he submitted a claim for treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after the events of 9/11/2001. Apparently, those in the position of decision-making on such issues waved him off and sent him back out on the streets. He was also arrested for shooting the tires out on a construction worker's car and openly admitted it was due to being overcome with anger yet he was thrown back out on the street to fend for himself. Where are all of these heart-warming liberals who rush in to save a man like this? Apparently they are nowhere in the vicinity of this man…a man who appeared to be a ticking time bomb.
“Yes, but you see, you are all caught up in the mindset of this person and ignoring the deadly weapon…the gun”. That would be the liberal mantra because it is so easy to transition from there to the need to eliminate the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution. In other words, let’s treat the roughly 320 million people in America as if they are intent on doing something wrong and that way we will be covered on the true nuts among them. It does not matter if we trample on their rights…it is for their own good. It is not as if we are taking away their right to come and go freely simply by eliminating their guns. We must do the right thing and the right thing is to eliminate guns. That is the mindset that is perpetual out there in the liberal air and any opportunity to beat that drum never goes unnoticed.
Our educators and administrators involved in the education process in the USA are best described an as “over-educated lot”, totally devoid of common sense, and absolutely willing to carry out any process which moves America away from its roots. How can people with PhD degrees put textbooks in our classrooms that describe to our children the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution as “a citizen’s right to bear arms while serving in a militia”? That is a total misrepresentation of the meaning and intent of the amendment and if they do not know that, then their credentials are lacking in many ways. Like freedom of speech, the intent of the 2nd Amendment is to make it clear that the government shall make no laws which infringe upon the rights of citizens to bear arms even when a standing militia is in existence. As with the 1st Amendment, the 2nd is designed to protect the people from the government not vice-versa.
We might also remember that some of the 12 people who died in the Navy Yards tragedy might have been saved had the Base Security forces been properly armed. Former President Bill Clinton eliminated armed security on military installations back in the 90’s. Wow…how’d that work for us at the Navy Yard, Bill? Precious time was lost waiting for a 911 response. But, we cannot have armed security on military installations, can we, Bill? What if one of them went rogue? Maybe the others could shoot him? Might that be the quick solution?
Insanity, instability, mental illness, combat fatigue or whatever label you want to assign are very real traits in human beings. When those traits kick in strong enough and the desire rises high enough, logic evades these people. They become intent on doing something which is irrational to the great majority of us and they find a way to do it whether it might be with a gun or some other instrument. They are the “problem”, everything else is simply an accessory to the crime.
If we apply Senator Feinstein’s reasoning, we will eventually get rid of the automobile because it is an instrument used so often in the abduction and killing of young girls around the country. It is involved in kidnapping, rape, murder, bank robbery, and the transport of illegal substances across state lines. The automobile is all of that and a natural-born “killer on the road” to boot. There is every rationale in Ms. Feinstein’s reasoning to rid ourselves of it just like the gun.
Once upon a time in this nation, we actually elected representatives to go to Washington D.C. and serve the “will of the people”. Somewhere along the lines, that concept was lost and we are now being “raised as children by our elected parentage” in Washington. I don’t know about you but I am a sick of it and I am sick of the stupid rationale employed in the process. Looking back to World War II, it is easy for us to laugh at how stupid the German people were to turn their guns over to Hitler. But, at the time, Hitler was assuring them that they had nothing to fear for their government would protect them. Never lose sight of that transaction in history. The Founding Fathers reserved us the right to bear arms knowing that eventually the tyranny which infects government would come to the forefront. We have reached that place in the road today in America. Do not let the acts of irrational people justify the acts of seemingly “irrational elected officials”. Stand up for the 2nd Amendment!
