Obama’s rationale in setting these targets is advancing clean energy with an eye toward reducing the nation’s carbon footprint. You might not yet know it, but this president is convinced that climate change is the biggest danger faced by the nation. He cannot prove it, but when has Obama proved anything that he’s claimed? He simply decrees it by virtue of his all-powerful Oz persona. From that point, whatever lies are necessary to justify the ends are acceptable. We have seen this behavior over and over with this president. He feeds the low-information crowd a load of garbage they assume is factual, then justifies any action that he takes as being in the best interest of the nation. In truth, there is no scientific consensus that climate change(a.k.a. global warming) exists.
Obama has already come down hard on the coal industry, indicating his dislike for one of the few cheap and readily available (the U.S. has the largest amount of coal reserves in the world) forms of fossil fuel available to us. One might assume that if the president were that concerned and truly believed that coal was evil, he would simply regulate its use and ban the mining of it, period—leave it in the ground. But that is not the case. George Soros has big plans to sell our unmined coal to China—a nation that has less than fifty years of coal reserves but is almost 90% dependent on coal for its electricity, besides having a miserably unsafe mining industry. China is becoming desperate for a coal source, thus, there are big bucks to be made.
So you might ask, what is further regulating the coal-burning electrical plants going to hurt at this point? According to the Institute for Energy Research, in 2013, coal burning plants generated 39% of the electricity powering the grid. Therefore, the short answer is it that it will drive the urgency for the States to develop a plan to ensure the current electrical grid remains stable. Some coal-fired plants have already closed due to their inability to meet the new standards, thus the grid resources are wearing thin. Getting the remaining plants whipped into shape is going to cost bookoo bucks and someone will have to pay. Who do you think that might be? If you guessed the consumer, you are 100% correct!
You might wonder why any rational president would do this. Can you recall the days of Obama’s actions when the stimulus money was being distributed? Way too much of it went to green energy businesses that wasted no time in failing and going bankrupt shortly after the money was in their hands. One of the reasons they went under was the fact that they could not compete on a global basis with China. Another reason is that we are not capable of replacing our current (“non-green”) resources at this point and the costs associated with doing so would make it all the more prohibitive. This is where Mr. Obama steps in.
Do you remember a few decades back when ethanol was first being developed as an alternative to gasoline? The cost of producing and distributing it made it more expensive than gasoline. In more recent years, the climbing price of gasoline has lessened the price gap, and we now see ethanol mixed with our gasoline. There is a lesson in that—if you can’t get the price of the alternative down, then raise the price of the status quo. This is exactly what President Obama intends to do, although he will stand on his podium and distort the truth, claiming clean energy will be more affordable for everyone.
In the United States today we have four alternate ways to generate electricity besides the use of coal: hydro generation (water power), wind generation, solar generation, and natural-gas generation. Mr. Obama’s recent decree froze the use of natural gas at its current levels, so you can mark that one off the list as a stop-gap. That leaves water, wind, and solar. All three of these share two characteristics—they may be located a long way from the end-user as not all sites are available or advantageous for use and, more importantly, all are reliant on weather, which can be wildly unreliable. The costs involved in building the links between the source and the consumer will be staggering, and the weather can’t be helped. The States don’t have the money but they, along with the producers, will be saddled with the regulations. The federal government is not going to come along with financial aid, so inevitably the consumers will foot the bill in their electrical charges each month. So, if you are counting on clean energy to lower your cost of living, you are whistling in the dark so to speak.
There is another factor here to be considered. The current electrical grid comprises a conglomerate of electrical suppliers. A new approach incorporating clean energy will no doubt require new, more efficient management. This will generate a call for the consolidation of the electrical grid to a system that can be more centrally controlled. And guess who will most likely be given that control? The federal government. You see, Obama and company believe that the government should be in control of anything necessary to the people, and the best way to gain that control is to destroy our current sources of electricity with over-regulation justified by the same twisted data used to rationalize climate change.
Once again, the Obama Administration will capitalize on the adage, Never let a good disaster go to waste. Of course, since we did not have a disaster in the energy arena, Mr. Obama and his minions have created one. Like all previous Obama disasters, there is no time for thought, discussion, debate, or consideration. The Great Oz has spoken. We simply must hurry up and obey.
