Fidel Castro gained the support of the Cuban people and the momentum to overthrow the Batista government by promising a better life to those people. You see, Castro used all the good principles of “socialism” to convince the people that a Utopia awaited them if only Cuba could be transformed into something that it was not under Batista. Socialism plays on envy and greed very effectively. Once in control, Castro sold his soul and that of the Cuban people to the Communists and cast Cuba into a dark, cruel place where almost all of the people suffered in dire poverty. The government took everything and disdainfully tossed American businesses out of Cuba. Castro then allied himself with the Russians, who were more than glad to line his pockets in return for using Cuba as a site from which to launch weapons aimed at the USA. President Kennedy had to face down that threat in 1962—a confrontation with the Soviet Union which took the world to the brink of World War III and nuclear holocaust.
Although Kennedy resolved that conflict to our best interest, Castro remained vile toward the USA and continued his rants against the people of America. Meanwhile, many Cubans tried to escape their homeland, crossing the short expanse of ocean between Cuba and the shores of the USA in any way possible, hoping to reach the land of freedom and opportunity. Many made it, but many more did not and they suffered greatly for their aborted attempts at the hands of Castro and his minions. You see, Castro never created Utopia in Cuba. Instead, he created hell-on-earth and it got worse by the day as he filled his own pockets and consolidated his power over the people. Over time, the USA introduced many sanctions to object to Castro’s regime and to show its distaste for a nation that disrespects its people and tramples on their freedom.
Now, ask yourself what has changed in this situation. If you look at Castro or Cuba, you will not find the answer. The only change in the equation is that Barack Hussein Obama became President of the United States of America. After almost seven years of his reign (and yes, that is the term I specifically mean to use!), we have learned much about his character. Obama has a soft spot for socialism, and maybe even communism. He believes that all should suffer equally if fairness and equality are to be attained. He believes that no one other than himself ever accomplished anything of substance by their individual efforts, and therefore the government must invade everyone’s life to the greatest extent possible. Obama shares the same belief of Castro--the government must be in full control of the people. That is what has changed.
By normalizing relations with Cuba and ignoring the sanctions that are in place, Obama is once again thumbing his nose at Congress, our heritage, and our beliefs, and he is spitting in the face of the American people—a talent which he has honed to a very fine skill while hiding behind the “race card.” America had no impending disaster to distract and confuse, so Obama created this one to replace a long line preceding it. His entire presidency is marked by one drama after another for purposeful reason. By creating conflict, chaos, and confusion, Obama can carry out his agenda under the veil of obfuscation. By the time things are untangled and figured out, it’s too late to respond. Obama is no better than Fidel Castro either in his actions or his beliefs. Once you figure that point out, his actions are easily understood.
Here is the fallacy underlying this rapprochement with Cuba by the Obama Administration: The Cuban people have been left out of the equation. Did you see a deal made and papers signed between Obama and Castro stating that the rights of the people would be restored? Did you see Castro make a conciliatory statement concerning his government’s attitude toward its people or the people of the United States? Did you see any acknowledgement on the part of President Obama that Cuba had finally seen the light and that Castro was now ready to embrace democratic ideals of individual liberty, equality, and opportunity? No—you did not see any of that. What you saw was the President of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama, ignoring all of that and yet again, unilaterally and without Congressional consent, moving to “normalize” our relations with Castro and Cuba. Obama just slapped the American people with one hand and the Cuban people with the other.
No doubt, most Americans would like to see the Cuban people have the opportunity and individual successes available to them if Castro did not have a choke hold on the country. The same might be said of those in Mexico who also risk so much to come here and escape the problems of their own country. No doubt, Obama wants all that to be a part of his “legacy” if he ever leaves the throne. So, in order to secure that legacy, he is willing to take whatever action is necessary—whether it’s unconstitutional or just downright illegal—and dare anyone to knock the race card out of his hand. He does not care that the USA represents the opportunity and individual liberty that will never come to the Cuban people as long as Fidel Castro breathes. All he cares about is associating his name with the “symbolism” of the gesture and having it recorded in the annals of history as such. That is the selfish narcissist that lives in the White House in America.
In the coming months, we will see how Obama’s actions on Cuba play with Congress. My guess is that it will be pushed under the rug with only a whimper or two from a few who feel compelled to say something politically expedient to save their own political necks. Otherwise, Obama will move on unchecked to cook up whatever next disaster he can, and remedy it for another installation in the history books of the USA. I will make one prediction—soon the American people will see him standing on the tarmac shaking hands with Castro and smiling as if he has accomplished something of value. We know better. What kind of president turns his back on the lone democracy in the Middle East, Israel, yet embraces a country crumbling under communism and a dictator who reviles us? Obama claims he loves America, but he does not. How could he?
