Hobby Lobby is a corporation with over fifty percent of its outstanding shares held by family members who started the business. They are people of the Christian faith who have stated since day one that their religious principles were being violated by the requirements of ObamaCare. Under ObamaCare, employers are required to offer insurance covering twenty different forms of birth control. There is (or was) no wiggle room. Of those twenty different kinds, Hobby Lobby was contesting only four, four that were not for “birth control” but abortifacients, i.e., drugs which end pregnancy after the fact. In effect, they are drugs designed to create an “abortion.” Some would say that is not true because they do not believe that “life” begins at the time of conception, but for those of the Christian faith, it does. Hobby Lobby could not in good faith pay for coverage of abortion-inducing drugs for their employees. Keep in mind that Hobby Lobby was willing to include the remaining sixteen “birth-control” items on the list and make them available to their employees, a stance which was more than fair.
One aspect really hits you in the face in light of this ruling: the Left supports people who do not want to be responsible or accountable for any activity even though they want to enjoy all the perks associated with it. It is one thing to ask a company to provide coverage to employees wishing to practice birth control, but it is quite another to ask them to bear the cost for employees who display no concern for birth control at the outset but want a solution to an unwanted pregnancy after the fact. Those solutions are out there for those who want to be reckless and unaccountable for their actions—no one has taken that access away. You just have to put your “big-boy pants” on and pay for your behavior and its aftermath yourself. There is nothing unreasonable in that expectation.
Those on the Left would like you to believe that such actions will deprive the poor and the downtrodden of a remedy, casting them to the fate of unwanted pregnancy—a fate they cannot afford. Who decided that being poor and downtrodden was a justifiable excuse for irresponsible sexual behavior? Oh, sorry—I’m too poor to be responsible! I’ll try to do better next time—but how about bailing me out this time? Sorry, suck it up and do what the rest of us do: pay for consequences of our behavior! It is one thing to argue for assistance on the basis of “simple needs” like food, clothing, or shelter, but this is entirely different. This is an all-out attack not only on the Constitution but also on the freedom of religious belief. Here’s some irony for you: the same people demanding that Hobby Lobby be excoriated for its beliefs are standing in another line to remind you to respect that bastion of religious tolerance, Islam. How can you have it both ways?
Corporations provide medical coverage as a “motivational” benefit of the job, a factor in competing for the best employees for their workforce. At least that was the case until ObamaCare came along and turned things upside down. Now the law demands that healthcare benefits be provided by companies with over fifty full-time employees. Meanwhile the President goes around “tweaking” the provisions of ObamaCare on a weekly basis and magically waving his hand to make this group and that exempt. The Left points a finger at Hobby Lobby and cries “discrimination” while this rogue President openly discriminates whenever the mood and political expediency suits him and they applaud him for it. Can you say “hypocrisy”? This is the same crowd that cries for “fairness and equality” as long as they are the ones deciding how it’s to be doled out—which they will be glad to do with taxpayer money!
Private corporations, just like individuals, have a “right to choose” under the Constitution. It is part of that “life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness” thing that some may have read about in the Constitution. Once we have the Supreme Court turn its back on those principles, we will be on the road to seeing individual freedoms erode case by case until the government is in charge of everything you do from winding your watch to washing your clothes. Any sane person who has any respect for freedom and liberty does not want to go anywhere near such an outcome ever, but those crying about “birth control” are ready and willing to trade it all away to get someone to pay for their “morning after pills”—what a crock—a very dangerous crock!
Once again, the low-information voter will fall for the “lack of contraceptives” lie that is being perpetrated by the Left and the liberal media outlets to bolster their claims of a “War on Women.” One might question their sanity if they knew the facts, but with the low-information types, that is not the case and it never will be. As usual, the Left will consolidate its base with a mockery of lies after suffering this defeat. They love to put lipstick on a pig and tell you it’s a swan. They love to throw around words and phrases which make the low-information voters think that they are compassionate and everyone else is a bunch of cold-hearted jerks.
This may be one of the last times that America sees its liberty upheld by the High Court. If this President gets the opportunity to appoint one more liberal hack to the bench during his term, all bets are off and the gates are wide open to attacking the Constitution head-on. Of course, that fact will never be pointed out by the Left, as they will mask their efforts behind some glorified promise of a “Utopian Land” where everybody is taken care of equally, fairly, and expeditiously—it’s just over that next hill yonder—follow me! For those of us who believe in and support the Constitution, our lives are and forever will be under assault and our precious freedom and liberty will always be at stake. Be careful what you believe and of what you are willing to accept—if you aren’t, the chickens just might come home to roost.
