Recently, The New York Times called for the arrest and prosecution of former Vice President Dick Cheney and his staff for their purported roles in the CIA-sponsored “torture” of terrorist suspects after 9/11. Just like so many situations we see today, we are expected to ignore any inconvenient details and facts and get on with lynching the alleged perpetrators. In a past blog I wrote about how the Obama Administration creates divisiveness and then pours salt on the resulting wounds. The most recent example of this is their effort to give “legs” to this torture accusation.
In late May, Obama released five Guantanamo prisoners, inarguably five of the world’s most dangerous men. These men are religious fanatics given to murdering the non-Islamic infidels of the world, and Obama set them free. For the most part, the media applauded Obama for letting them go—at the same time, they publicly demanded that America apologize for the abuse these men suffered at the hands of their interrogators. Based on the CIA torture report (fabricated by Washington staffers when they could not get access to the information they wanted from the CIA), we are ready to hang anyone involved. To me, this smacks of a nation that is rapidly taking on a lynch mob mentality, and it is occurring with the tacit approval of Barack Obama and Eric Holder.
Comedian Bill Cosby is that rarity: a black conservative. Over the years he has been one of the most outspoken Blacks urging young black men to dress better, speak better, man-up and apply themselves. Mr. Cosby understands the power of individual pride, determination, and focus. Perhaps this made him a threat to the Left, who wants everyone on the dole. Mr. Cosby’s credibility had to be undermined. Now we have a parade of women accusing Mr. Cosby of sexual abuse and rape, some of the incidents dating back 40 years. Even though obtaining evidence against Mr. Cosby will be next to impossible, there has been a rush to judgment, with performance cancelations and two colleges rescinding his honorable degrees. Again, the mob mentality at work helped along by the liberal media.
Consider former President Bill Clinton. Prior to his presidential win, Mr. Clinton was subjected to many of the same accusations. His promiscuous behavior was confirmed, however, with the Lewinsky scandal. In contrast to Bill Cosby, the media told us the President’s sexual exploits weren’t any of our business, that they had no impact on his running of the White House. Meanwhile, Bill’s dedicated little wife, Hillary, worked feverishly behind the scenes to ruin the credibility of anyone who would accuse him of such dastardly deeds. Time and again we have seen conservative black men like Herman Cain, Clarence Thomas, and Bill Cosby destroyed by accusations, and no-one has come to their defense—not the media and certainly not the liberal politicians who think fairness and equality only applies to other liberals.
I am not saying a thoughtful analysis of the facts isn’t in order. I am not saying when the evidence is overwhelming to look the other way. What I am saying is one should be wary of a media that spoon feeds you some of the facts, or packages the facts in a way that advances their agenda. It’s easy to succumb to the mob mentality if you don’t see who’s pulling the strings. . .and that could be, more often than not, Mr. Obama. He likes divisiveness. Lincoln said A house divided against itself cannot stand.” Mr. Obama is counting on it.
