Both sides of the aisle, political drama aside, seem to be bent on just simply “kicking the can down the proverbial road” once again by applying short-term bandages to our financial woes which will only worsen our fiscal problems downstream when a good majority of them are dead and gone…their estates passed to their heirs. If either side put as much effort into a budget compromise, as a nation, we would at least have something which the President and his bunch would have to live with in terms of spending. Instead, every six months, we go through this three-act play about “continuing resolution” and the associated drama with each side attempting to win an “Oscar” for their show-stopping performance. Along with their behavior, we have a “nut-house” liberal media flashing default clocks on the screen of the television throughout the day and wringing their hands over the “coming default”.
What a shame that the vast majority of the American media seems to play to the tragedy and pity scenes with regard to information in this nation. What a shame they cannot simply report the facts as they really are with regard to monthly cash flow into the government, the cost of the national debt, and the particular potential shortfalls. At present, the federal government takes in over $250 billion dollars per month on average. Budget or not; debt-ceiling or not, that money is flowing into the Treasury. Our monthly debt service burden is around $20 billion dollars…less than 10% of the total monthly take and all the media can talk about is the “impending default” on the nation’s debt causing the low-information person to panic and point fingers at those who are attempting to instill some “fiscal responsibility” into our federal government.
According to federal government numbers published by The Heritage Foundation, the efforts of both sides in this “seemingly opposing” scenario will do nothing more than push the burden of our towering debt out beyond 2020. Estimates indicate that the annual deficit will exceed $1 Trillion Dollars by the year 2023. By that time, roughly three-fourths of the annual federal spending will go toward “mandatory spending”. This is due in large part to two factors: 1. the relative unchecked growth in “entitlement spending” which is especially evident since the Obama Administration took office, 2. the addition of $1.8 Trillion Dollars in federal healthcare spending by 2023 required by ObamaCare.
At the present time, much of what is spent that “we do not have as a nation” falls under the heading of “discretionary spending” or spending which is done at the “whim of the federal government”. Now, President Obama claims that he is not talking about spending more money but simply wants to pay the bills yet approximately $53 Billion Dollars per month goes out of the federal coffers each month for “discretionary needs”. Apparently, the President is in denial in that regard. Clearly, this President and his administration have no sense of fiscal responsibility nor do they care to demonstrate any such behavior to the American public.
The President, as he claims of his debt-ceiling vote of 2006, is simply “acting politically and in the best interest of his political party”. The best interest of the American people is so far back on the burner that one could easily conclude that it is totally “off the stove”. For all of President Obama’s whining and bemoaning of how much he “just wants to help the middle-class” of this nation, the evidence points to the contrary on the long-haul. The middle-income wage earners of this nation will suffer the most under the ObamaCare provisions and pay out the most in the process of that suffering. The wealthy will not notice the difference and the poor will get yet another “freebie” from the political party which knows no restraint when it comes to handing out “free government cheese”. By the time that middle-income America has awakened to its plight brought on by ObamaCare, the gravity of the destiny will be far too real and a recovery from the fate most unlikely. The financial impact of ObamaCare will break the back and the spirit of the “wage-earning” American. When those events are in stone, America will be ripe for the picking in terms of alternative ideology.
The President is naïve to believe that the irresponsible growth of “entitlements” in this nation will afford him the legacy which he seeks. From his high perch, he can only imagine his name being revered down through history much in the same false sense that many Americans worship the efforts of Roosevelt as he attempted to end the Great Depression. In truth, Roosevelt failed at that effort for twelve long years…a period in which he re-inserted himself into the high office for a third term in defiance of the Constitution. In the end, America was saved by World War II and the industrializing efforts required in facing that challenge.
Obama is bent on making the federal government the central focus in our lives and giving it the power over us to decide who gets what, when, and how much. Under the “Obama Legacy”, free enterprise and individual success will die on the vine along with the middle-income wage earners of this nation. Obama’s Legacy will offer only poverty for the option to “join the wealthy” will no longer be open to the general public. Once the bulk of the nation is mired in poverty and subject to the overwhelming powers of a giant federal government, then it will be quite plain to the majority of the American people who remain what Obama’s agenda really was in these years of the present. If you cannot grasp this concept, maybe it is because you really do not understand that there is no provision for a “middle-income” faction in the socialist model nor will there ever be.
As I have stated many times over, Washington D.C. is devoid of any leadership which represents the “will of the American people”, the Constitution, or the Rule of Law. The federal government is nothing more than a vast machine representing self-interest and manipulation of people, money and the law. Our elected officials are incapable of following the Constitution, incapable of fiscal restraint, and uninterested in the future of the nation beyond that which is associated with “what’s in it for me”. We have no one to lead the way to compromise which, in these times, a real President would be there to do. President Obama has no interest in that end game. In that regard one can quickly surmise that this President and the White House cat have much in common as they both can find a “corner” in the Oval Office in which to leave their crap.
