Of course, the rabid tree-huggers among us would quickly rise up and point out that the EPA is doing exactly what is was set up to do. Laws and regulations under the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act are proof. Well, how convenient. After establishing the EPA, someone apparently pushed hard on Congress to create some laws on which these folks could hang their hats. That makes sense in that an organization which is set up to protect air and water quality through regulation must have some laws to enforce. How very, very convenient and so seemingly harmless—at least that seemed to be the case at the time.
In the past couple of decades in this country, we have been reminded over and over that no one should stand in the way of anything that is being done for ”the common good.” Unfortunately, we have also learned that far more is being done in the name of “the common good” than we could ever have imagined. Still, who would oppose anything attached to the “common good” mantra? Only evil people, that’s who! Bang! You got yourself a label that no-one ever wants stuck on them. Look at it as kind of being against some of Obama’s policies. Bang! You are a racist! Same principle, different label, but you get the idea. It’s not about someone being evil, but simply a ploy designed to silence those who see things from a different perspective.
Congress never envisioned an agency as powerful as the EPA. Senators and Representatives argued over creating it and never really could find common ground. Richard Nixon fixed that with his pen and created the agency by Executive Order. That dangerous move left Congress to create the laws which would become the platform for regulation and enforcement that plunged the nation into even darker waters. So now we have legislation which has been turned into laws regarding clean air and clean water. The EPA, citing their original mandate, has taken those laws and opened them up to interpretation concerning limits, and President Obama has once again wielded his pen to up the ante on the limits of carbon emissions for power plants.
Let us not get into the minutia of all the EPA has done over its 40 year history here, but suffice it to say that the agency has used the legislation regarding clean air and clean water to extend its long tentacles into the heart of the American economic structure. The EPA’s presence assures us that the American consumer will be the ultimate target of their actions and will suffer increased inconvenience and economic hardship as a result. How can that be, you might ask—isn’t the EPA about helping Americans maintain a healthy planet? Let us just say here that the overzealous nature with which this agency functions will make that outcome more and more readily apparent as the years continue to pass, especially when it is being run by Left Wing Liberals under a liberal presidential administration.
On its website, the EPA makes the following statement: From regulating auto emissions to banning the use of DDT; from cleaning up toxic waste to protecting the ozone layer; from increasing recycling to revitalizing inner-city brownfields, EPA’s achievements have resulted in cleaner air, purer water, and better protected land. That statement alone gives one a perspective on just how wide-reaching this agency has become. The agency regulates auto emission standards which drive CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards for automobile-makers. Those standards continue to escalate with the real purpose of making fossil fuels as unpopular and unaffordable as possible. What is the downside of that? For one, It kills people on our roads and highways more and more every year. As vehicles are constructed lighter and lighter, the addition of extra safety measures like airbags and seatbelts still fails to provide adequate protection even in low speed crashes resulting in more fatalities. DDT had been banned virtually worldwide, yet thousands continue to die due to the mosquito-borne diseases which DDT once eliminated. Although cleaning up toxic waste is a noble endeavor, it is not justification for policing the ozone layer, an effort both defended and rationalized by skewing the atmospheric data to fit a doom and gloom scenario. Initially, clean air and water were the impetus for most of the EPA’s efforts; now we see the EPA’s efforts expanding into different areas of our lives driven by claims of “Global Warming”—the birthchild of a delusional and greed-stricken Al Gore.
Today, the very Left-leaning President Obama is using his Executive Order Pen to order the reduction of carbon emissions of electric power plants to one-third of 2005 levels by the year 2030. You might remember that the Obama administration operates on the premise that no good disaster should be allowed to go to waste. This is exactly the case here. Highlighting new findings that predict further environmental disaster as a result of “Global Warming,” the president rationalized punitive actions against both the coal and electric-power generating industries in many States. What is disturbing about this is that Global Warming—a phenomenon as yet unproven—has been used as the basis for an Executive Order. Its use also swings the door wide open for the EPA to use the same rationale again and again in other arenas in this nation. As an aside, Obama gave the tree-hugging, rabid-environmentalist voter a wet one right on the lips as we approach the 2014 mid-term elections. Coincidence you say? No—there is never just “coincidence” where Obama and his ilk are concerned.
Let’s get clear on something right here and now. Obama’s executive order is another nail in the coffin of the American coal industry, not just for the small producer but the entire industry. It significantly drives up the cost of our most inexpensive fossil fuel and does so rapidly through regulation and compliance. Those costs will be passed onto consumers and show up on the monthly electric bill. That cost may not seriously impact the lives of the wealthy among us, but it is will do great economic harm to the middle-income wage earners of America—the precise group Obama is always touting he is trying to protect. In the end, this becomes nothing more than another tool to strip money from them and shift it into other pockets. That truth will show up on America’s doorsteps long before any other claims that I make here, and it will show up as a demand for cash or the lights will go out.
Let us also understand another fact which makes all of this seem so needless, ludicrous, and totally unjustified. The American coal industry and its assets will not fall into an idle state but simply change hands for the price of a few cents on the dollar. Oh yeah, you say—who would be stupid enough to buy? Well, let me introduce you to George Soros and his minions (including Barack Obama) who will most certainly buy as many of the assets of the coal industry as possible and for very good reason—sheer greed. Soros will line his pockets on the back of the economic woes of the American middle-income earner while also enjoying the fact that his dream of destroying the American capitalist system is being fulfilled by his #1 puppet, Barack Hussein Obama.
Turn your focus to China for a moment. Eighty-eight percent of China’s electrical needs are supplied by coal-fired electric plants. China mines much of its own coal, but that industry is quite aged and dangerously unsafe as well as inefficient. It is estimated that China’s current coal reserves will last less than fifty years. That means that China is on the market today looking for other coal suppliers. Guess who has most of available coal? The American coal industry. Soros and company already has the gears turning to make the most of this situation, including already purchasing a coal exporting facility on the west coast of the USA. Soros may not be able to purchase all of it, but he will get a sizeable chunk of it and use his political leverage to create legislation and regulation via the EPA to ensure that those who manage to survive in the coal industry are under too much economic duress to continue on. Ultimately, the same amount or even more coal will be spewed into the global atmosphere by China, while we Americans sit here and pay through the nose for electricity and watch our coal being exported. There is a phrase for such outcomes: You’ve been had, America!
Mark my word, this is just another stop on the way to “Cap and Trade.” That legislation is currently being justified by this conjured-up global warming disaster. Soon, you will pay a price for your carbon footprint in America, and that money will be redistributed by the government to those who are less fortunate than you and more inclined to vote for a left-wing ballot agenda. The EPA may have been launched with good intentions, but the expansion of its mission and the reach of its tentacles are beginning to dig very deeply into the liberty and freedom of all Americans. You may not be able to visualize it now, but one day you may just wake up and see the EPA in control of “what you say, how you say it, and who you say it to,” and those pesky firearms which send lethal amounts of gunpowder into our clean air across this country—can’t have that! Get ready, America. Big Brother is here and he is on the move.
