So, what is the mainstream media to do now? Now that their liberal figurehead—the Unsinkable Hillary Clinton—has, in fact, sunk? Well, the Clinton camp has now joined Green Party Jill Stein’s effort to demand a recount in the key states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Since there is not a snowball’s chance in hell of anything to be gained by this, I suspect Clinton and George Soros money are largely footing the bill. The reasons for this are several: one, it keeps the Clinton name in the news; two, it provokes and annoys Mr. Trump, and three, it signals that the Left isn’t on life support (although it is).
The panic is widespread. While the mainstream media gleefully watched the histrionics of the Republican primary with, what was it? eighteen candidates battling for supremacy, they failed to consider they had pinned their hopes on two. TWO. And we now know that the DNC conspired to undermine Bernie Sanders to ensure Mrs. Clinton’s candidacy. So there you have it: one 69-year old candidate who, for all intents and purposes, was supposed to win but did not. And on the conservative side, a number of young, bright minds bristling with ideas and enthusiasm.
Some have floated the idea of a 2020 Michelle Obama candidacy. But short of being First Lady and meddling unsuccessfully with school lunch programs, installing an organic garden, and championing the LET’S MOVE exercising videos, her résumé is as thin as Barry’s. Besides, even Barack does not think she has the temperament for the job. (To my mind, she is missing a whole lot of other things for such consideration, but that has never stopped the Left.)
Now, let’s understand something very clearly. The mainstream media has taken to reporting that Mr. Trump wasn’t elected so much on his own merits, but because the voters were determined to deny Hillary Clinton the presidency. Presumably, we decided to roll the dice on Donald Trump because four more years of Hillary Clinton pursuing the failed policies of President Obama was a bridge too far. I disagree. Again, the media is trying to spin what we saw: overflow crowds at every rally. What's more, overflow crowds are continuing to amass at his Thank You Tour. The media just can’t wrap their heads around the fact that we like him. We like him because he is bracing and bold and without artifice—not the stuff of the Left elites. Already he is making good on campaign promises and he hasn’t even officially taken office.
Of course the Left will now rally all its forces to oppose every action the Trump administration takes. Why? Is it because they do not want to see Barack Obama’s legacy undone? No—that’s a concern but it is not the primary concern. No, their reasoning is much simpler. The Republicans cannot be allowed to succeed in doing anything productive because that would show just how dysfunctional the last eight years have been. You can bet they will claim every “win” is done at the expense of the little guy. They have to. That’s their m.o. and up until now, it’s worked pretty well for them. But along came Donald Trump who saw what we saw and wasn’t afraid to say so. And the mainstream media was still peddling the same old lies.
Don’t expect the news outlets to change. It must be a congenital flaw. Some have said their fawning admiration of President Obama led them to “not do their job” in scrutinizing the actions of his presidency. We know this will not be the case for Mr. Trump. I fear much as the press loathed President Nixon, they loathe Mr. Trump—and what he stands for—in equal measure. But that’s fine with me. I wouldn’t trust a wolf in sheep’s clothing, which is why the New York Times’ “apology” meant nothing. I believe we saw it for what it is—a craven attempt to retain face and readership, and the first will be hard to come by.
