Biden states that “we will follow ISIS to the gates of Hell”—a rather ambiguous plan, I’d say. What a waste of time making such claims if your leader has no plan in place to do anything about them except work toward a manageable containment. ISIS is an organization (I use the term loosely) that has beheaded two American journalists and released the video recordings for the world to see. They are also known to have carried out mass slayings of those who do not embrace their rabid faith (another term used loosely). Those making up the ranks of ISIS may have the physical attributes of human beings but they share no other traits such as compassion, tolerance, brains or judgment. They purposely do things to enrage the rest of the world.
Meanwhile, the strongest terms Mr. Obama can muster to address these vermin are hoping primarily to diminish their effect through isolation. He hints at destruction but that is a secondary option. An option--not a commitment to deliver on a promise. We must understand that ISIS is rooted in a fanaticism which draws on religion as it source of guidance. In other words, the fanaticism has resource and reference behind it for any that might be a “doubting Thomas” in their ranks. Never mind the fact that the interpretation of that resource (the Koran) may be a warped one. Remember, Hitler was quite effective convincing those around him that those of a lesser God should be dispensed from the earth with all due urgency. In fact, ISIS is probably the largest genocidal threat the world has seen since Hitler joined the devil in Hell. At the same time, we must never believe that the ideology of Nazism died with Hitler—it simply went underground.
President Obama would like you to believe that we have very limited options when it comes to ISIS. Of course, due to our “junior varsity” attitude—the direct result of a pompous witticism about ISIS’s capabilities mouthed by Obama many months ago—we sat on our hands and allowed them to grow into a very large and looming threat. The stronghold of that threat is now based in Syria and rapidly spreading across the western reaches of Iraq. If we are to destroy them, we must aim for the source of their strength, which is within the borders of Syria. But, the President has pointed out that we cannot do so without strengthening Assad’s choke-hold on that country.
Let’s get logical here. Sometimes it is necessary to choose between the evils confronting you and deal with them accordingly. ISIS is a threat to the world at present; a malignancy growing with each passing day. ISIS leaders have made it abundantly clear that their goal is to plant their flags on U.S. soil. Clearly, if they can make that threat a reality, no-one is safe, and this threat becomes one to be taken very seriously around the globe. For that reason we must forget about what our efforts against ISIS in Syria will mean for Assad and address the immediate threat. Once we have effectively dealt with ISIS, we can turn to whatever problem Assad presents. Since we are not doing anything about Assad anyway , it’s pretty pathetic that Mr. Obama is using the possibility of strengthening Assad’s position as an excuse to justify his own inaction. The President’s remarks regarding ISIS strike me as both pompous and ignorant, in truth, reflecting the same level of incompetency and ambiguity as the two talking heads doing his media work at the State Department. The American people deserve far better.
When the USA embraces the concept of containment as it applies to a threat, we place our nation and the people who serve it in a much higher level of danger because we handcuff our military options. We attempt to be the nice guy when the other side has no interest in playing by such rules. This stupidity on our part appears humanitarian on the surface, but in truth it gets a lot of our own people maimed or killed. It also adds to a protracted resolution to the problem. We learned a lot in Vietnam, but that lesson has long since been tossed aside and we are now demonstrating a ready willingness to make the same mistakes again. The actions of the Obama Administration has already resulted in Iraq being tossed to the wolves as he quickly began cleaning the slate of any commitments he inherited and ignored the consequences. Of course, he blames Iraq’s fall on the Iraqi leadership, but in truth, that outcome was largely a function of his milquetoast attitude toward both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Through his efforts in the Middle East, Obama has clearly defined for the other nations of the world what it means to be allied with the USA. It’s like having a “big guy” for your best friend and then finding out that the “big guy” runs the other way at the first sign of trouble. Israel has made that discovery as they deal daily with those who want to eradicate the Jewish people from the earth. Meanwhile, like Nero, Obama fiddles while Rome burns. Somewhere along the line, one of Obama’s mentors convinced him that the USA was a colonialist bully steeped in greed and unjustly stealing from the rest of the world. He cannot get that thought out of his craw. That fact is evident as he apologizes for our existence at every opportunity while kissing the hands of those who are sworn to kill us. With such a leader, we do not need any enemies—our fate is sealed.
So what are we going to do about ISIS? In my opinion, this administration will drag its feet on the issue through the mid-term elections. Of course, you are probably wondering how that is possible. If you have not learned by now, you should—history is your answer. Just look at the history of the Obama Administration. No matter what the dilemma, there is always something to replace it as a distraction. ISIS as a frontline subject will be deflected by the administration moving head-long into a fight with Congress over the ever-popular debt ceiling crisis. You will search your news sources for information on ISIS while being inundated with blow-by-blow reporting on the debt-ceiling. Obama couldn’t care less about the debt ceiling. It is an inconvenience to his “open checkbook” attitude but of little consequence in the grand scheme of things. Still, Obama and his cronies are opportunists who will conveniently use the debt ceiling issue to get the heat off their necks on ISIS. Meanwhile, that cancer will continue to spread and do its evil.
The overall situation in the Middle East is driven largely by the Obama Administration’s inept approach to foreign policy. Obama continually comes up on the wrong side of the formula when solution time comes which inevitably worsens each situation. This is not accidental nor is it a function of naiveté. It is a clear and purposeful choice on his part. America today faces a number of “clear and present dangers” in the world. As a nation we have been here before, but this is the first time that we have faced a clear and present danger that dwells within. That would be the Obama Administration.
